City Seeks Contacts of New Omicron Case
One case of the Omicron variant was discovered in Haidian yesterday. The city is requesting that anyone who has visited the following locations please contact your community management to arrange for a covid test immediately.
Since the news broke, WeChat groups started discussions of facts mixed with rumors as to where this person has been and what schools are shut down due to Covid.
To put the rumors to rest, here’s what we know based on official reports.
The patient had no history of living in other provinces or cities within the last 14 days and was not in contact with anyone who has been confirmed to have Covid.
Several environmental samples were taken at her home were positive. Two persons living with her tested negative.
She self reported for testing after developing a fever on Jan 14.
It’s confirmed that she has the Omicron variant.
Her case is classified as mild.

December 31: Took bus 688 to go home after work, did not go out.January 1: Ate lunch at Quanjude at Tsinghua Science Park with friends. Took the subway to Baitasi with friends at 3pm. Went shopped at Lane Crawford on the first floor of Financial Street Mall at 3.50pm and then at Greybox Coffee on the ground floor. Went shopping at Ole's supermarket on the basement floor the took the subway from Fuchengmen Station to Shangdi Station at 5.49pm. At 6.26pm transferred to 623 bus to Xiang Huangqi station. Got off and went home.
January 2: At 11am she drove to Beijing SKP Department Store with friends at, 87 Jianguo Road in Chaoyang District for shopping. Then went to Financial Street Shopping Center’s Dior store at 12 and had lunch at Nan Xiaoguan Restaurant on the second floor of Finance Street shopping center at 2.10pm. Left at 3.02. Between 5-6.30pm she was at Yoolee Plaza (No. 21 Gongti North Road in Chaoyang District) in the basement to watch the talk show. After the show ended she drove home.
January 3: She didn't go out in the morning. Later that day she drove to Wal-Mart in Xicheng District of Qinghe with friends. At 3.37pm they left the supermarket. After that, they went to Chow Tai Fook, Zhou Sheng Sheng, and other stores. Then they drove home.
January 4 to 7: Took a private car to work every morning at 6.30am every morning 6: 30. Took bus 688 from Haidian Bridge North to Xiang Huang Qi Station to get off at 6pm to go home. On January 5 she took bus 688 after getting off to go to the McDonald's on Nongda South Road to pick up food.
January 8: She drove to the Changping District Reignwood Ecological Park ski resort with friends, at 10am and left around 1pm go to the western Mahua restaurant. They left at 1.22pm to go shopping at Aeon Mall at 2pm. She went home at 3pm and went out again to go to Mubei Modeling (Nongda Nan Lu Shop) for a perm. Left the salon at 8.50pm.
January 9: At 11:18am she took bus 688 from Shucun Station to Qinghe Xiaoying West Station, go to a friend's home for dinner. She walked to Qinghe Vientiane Hui with friends at 3pm to the Westtree Puff Dessert Shop, then drive home.
January 10 to 13: Took private care to go to work then took bus 688 from Haidian Bridge North to Xiang Huang Qi Station to get home at 6pm.
January 14: Did not go anywhere except to go get tested at at the clinic in Haidian on Dan Leng Street and Haidian West Street intersection southeast corner.
January 15: did not go out.
The reports have also included a map indicating all the places she’s gone.
Staff at a public secondary school in Haidian District have said that their schools have decided to move to online learning and send all students home as a precautionary measure, but since the case was reported at the beginning of CNY holiday, it currently does not change anything for international school families.
Chinese public schools have winter holiday scheduled for Jan 21-Feb 20. The case reported today means for many of these students, winter holiday will suddenly start a week earlier.
